February 2006:
As far as visitors are concerned it was a quiet month - there were a few individual visitors, including a doctor of history doing research in our archives, and a student who came to do an intensive Spanish course in Salamanca. The staff and seminarians of the Coimbra Diocesan Seminary stayed here while they made a pilgrimage to Avila and Alba de Tormes. It has been very busy though with works both inside and outside the college -our new rooms on the ground floor are almost ready, providing extra accommodation, particularly for a disabled person, as well as washing and drying facilities for all guests. Work is progressing well on the new fire-escape at one end of the building, and the alarm system within the building has been upgraded.
Work has begun also on the upgrade of the street outside the college - access has been difficult some days, and very mucky when we had snow and heavy rain at the end of the month. It should be completed though by early summer, so our summer visitors will enjoy the benefit of the new street - we will also be getting a new address, but that has not yet been publicised. Fr Toal was in Scotland for a few days to attend the Mass of Thanksgiving in the Caird Hall, Dundee, for the Silver Jubilee of Bishop Logan's Episcopal Ordination - over these years Bishop Logan has been one the bishops with special responsilibilty for this college, so, as well as congratulating him on his Jubilee, all associated with the college thank him for his workand support for the college.
